Favorite dish for adults and children, Japanese curry rice.
Curry originally was from South East Asia (including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and other Asia countries), and was introduced to Japan during the Meiji era by British. It combined with rice and adapted to Japanese taste so it has thicker, milder flavor. Curry rice was treated as a high standard dish in the past, due to the evolution and popularization more than hundred years, it became a unique Japanese style curry dish.
Japanese curry and India curry is completely different. According to some search reports, foreigners (including Asian) prefer Japanese curry rice after they tried both styles curry. Therefore, please try the Japanese curry rice if there is any chance.
The dish is popular due to its availability for purchase in supermarkets and convenient stores, where sells all sorts of curry spice and curry roux. You might see instant curry mixes which packed into one portion, its not only about convenient, the taste is also delicious and authentic. Below is a currey rice recipe which you might want to try it at home.
Japanese curry rice
Ingredients: meat (pork, beef, chicken any kind of meat you like), potatoes, carrots, onions, curry roux, oil.
1.Cut all ingredients into bit size pieces.
2.Heat meant in a pot, then take meat out.
3.Heat oil with low heat, and fry onion for 30 minutes until it goes into brown colour. Please keep stir the onion in order to avoid burt.
4.Add all other ingredients, and well stir for a while. Add water to the pot which cover all ingredients until all the vegetable becomes tender.
5.Add cooked meat, and reduce heat to low, and cook for 20 minutes.
6. Remove from heat and add curry roux, stir well so the pieces of the roux dissolve, and cook 10 more minutes with low heat.
7.Pour the curry over rice.
Many families like to challenge different kind of recipes with curry in Japan, so the materials and ingredients are also different. Every family has their own taste of curry rice. In addition, Katsu-kare is another popular curry dish in Japan.(Katsu is a breaded deep-fried pork cutlet. First of all, dip pork into a liquid made from eggs and flour, and cover with bread crumb and deep dried into hot pot with temperture around 200 degrees until it changes to golden colour)
There are many restaurants and shops sell curry rice, and some of them even specialized for curry. Based on different shops, the taste, ingredients, and spice are also different. In the other word, you won't feel bored if eat curry every day. Besides, apart from curry rice, there are many dishes made with curry sauce, for example, curry udon, curry bread and curry ramen.
