Actually, Kichijoji-temple and half of the city were burned down during Edo Period in 1657, and the disasters in Japanese history called “Meireki no Taika”. (Meireki conflagration)
Kichijoji-temple (original name: Suwayama Kichijoji) was located in bunkyou-ku which was also burned down during the disaster. Afterwards the Shogunate migrated out the citizen to central Tokyo where is present called Musashino. That moment, there was no any development in Musashino-city. But the citizens desperately hardwording in the area, and renamed the place to “Kichijoji”. Finally the area became the top of Kantō's most popular place where people want to live.

Inokashira Park is located about 10 minutes from Kichijoji Station with measurement 380,000 square meters, and it also called the oasis of Tokyo.
