Shiraito Falls (Shizuoka Prefecture)

Located at the foot of Mt. Fuji, Shiraito Falls is a natural monument and popular scenic spot located in Shizuoka Prefecture’s Fujinomiya City.
As part of Mt. Fuji, Shiraito Falls is covered as part of the mountain’s registration as a World Cultural Heritage. Mt. Fuji is considered a subject of faith and source of art.
Reminiscent of strands of white silk, hundreds of waterfalls of varying sizes tumble from a cliff 20 meters high and 150 meters wide. The water in Shiraito Falls is Mt. Fuji’s springwater, and up to 1.5 tons of water falls per second. Shiraito Falls is Mt. Fuji’s largest waterfall.
You can reach the waterfalls by following the long set of stairs at the end of the observation area. Up close, the waterfalls are very dynamic and give off an air of mystery!

The observation area is wheelchair-accessible, so those who use wheelchairs can still enjoy the waterfalls.
As the falls are cool even in the summer, please be conscious of the temperature and wear warm clothes.
Along the path from parking to Shiraito Falls is another set of waterfalls, called Otodome Falls.
Otodome Falls is approximately 25 meters wide and 5 meters high. Along with Shiraito Falls, Otodome Falls was featured in 100 Waterfalls of Japan.

In addition, Fujinomiya City is also famous nation-wide for its “Fujinomiya Yakisoba.”
Fujinomiya Yakisoba is a variety of yakisoba that uses chewy noodles, lard, shaved sardines, and spring water from Mt. Fuji, among other unique properties. From stands located near Shiraito Falls and the parking lot to restaurants throughout Fujinomiya City, Fujinomiya Yakisoba can be found all over the city, so be sure to give it a try!
