Osaka Shochikuza Theatre
From Kabuki to Rakugo, Japan's historical entertainment is abundant.
Built and opened in 1923, it was the first full-scale Western-style theater in Kansai. In 1997, it was renovated into a theater with state-of-the-art facilities while preserving the Neo-Renaissance-style facade, affectionately known as the "Triumphal Arch of Dotonbori." It continues to host a variety of performances including Kabuki, modern drama, comedy shows, concerts, musicals, and rakugo storytelling.
To make Kabuki accessible even to beginners, pamphlets called "Banbu" and audio guides are available for purchase, providing explanations and highlights of the performances.
On the basement 1st and 2nd floors, you can find restaurants selling Osaka's famous kushikatsu skewers, Kobe beef steaks, Nagoya's miso katsu, and sometimes bento boxes depending on the show. Enjoy delicious cuisine while experiencing Japan's historical entertainment.
