Situated within the popular Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, which spans a total length of 37.2 km and a maximum elevation difference of 1,975 m, the Tateyama Ropeway connects Kurobedaira and Daikanbo with an elevation difference of approximately 500 m. With a total length of 1,700 m, this single-span (without any support towers) ropeway is the longest of its kind in Japan, providing breathtaking views over a 7-minute aerial stroll with nothing to obstruct the scenery. Also known as the "moving observation deck," it offers a panoramic view of the Northern Alps, where peaks of around 3,000 m in height line up, allowing visitors to appreciate the stunning natural beauty, including fresh greenery and autumn leaves.
There are photogenic spots around the ropeway stations for capturing scenic views. From the rooftop observation deck of the Daikanbo station, standing on a sheer cliff, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Ushiro-Tateyama Range and Kurobe Lake. Additionally, from the Kurobedaira Panorama Terrace at Kurobedaira station, one can get a full view of the mountain. Nearby, the Kurobedaira Garden and the Alpine Plant Observation Garden, located just a 2-minute walk away, are also worth a visit.
